(gualacol, balsam peru, eugenol, 1.6% chlorobutanol) Used to treat alveolitis. Gives instant pain relief. Paste is introduced into socket with flat-bladed instrument, tamped down to cover exposed bone, and allowed to remain in the socket 3-5 days. Paste washes out gradually as socket heals.
